How to make a Mother’s Day card on Cricut

Celebrate this Mother’s Day with a custom 3D layered card cut from your Cricut Maker or Explore Air 2. This mandala-esque card is quick and easy to put together and can be customized with mom’s name. There are three card types available. One knock-out text, one raised text and one without text. You could even make these for Valentine’s Day!

These cards are really easy to make and put together. All you need is a few pieces of cardstock, your Cricut machine and your scoring tool. Let your machine do all the work for you!

How to Make a Mother’s Day Card on Cricut

If you’d rather watch a video on how to make it step by step, take a look at this video here (highly recommended!):

Step 1: Get the Free SVG file

Get the free SVG design file from the free resource library.

Step 2: Upload the Design into Cricut Design Space

Open up and upload the file into your Cricut Design Space

Here is what it will look like in Cricut Design Space:

There are three different cards in this file. They are grouped. You can toggle between them by clicking on the “eye” icon.

Pick a card and delete the other ones.

Step 3: Prepare the file in Cricut Design Space

Ungroup the layers. Do it twice (there are two groups.)

Select the layer above the white layer. This will be a score line. We need to change the setting so the Cricut knows it needs to score and not cut.

Select this layer and change the linetype to score.

You should now see this line as a dotted line.

THIS IS IMPORTANT!

Now we need to tell the Cricut machine which layer it is going to score on. Select the score line and the white layer. Click attach.

Repeat these steps for the second score line (above the dark purple layer).

You know you’ve done it right when you see two attach groups at the top of your layers.

Now you can change the layer colours to match what cardstock you will be using.

Step 4: Cut it on your Cricut machine

Click on make it to cut out your layers. Remember that the Cricut sorts the mats by COLOUR and not layers. Selecting your colours beforehand will save you a lot of time and headache trying to figure out what cardstock to put on your mat next.

Nice! You just made a mother’s day card. You can also use the other two cards included in the file to add your mother’s name on the card or you can make a card with just the heart pattern.

You could also weld a frame on your card. You can learn how to do that over here right in Cricut Design Space or you could download my SVG file to save some time.

Love the Mother’s Day card Jen, and your tutorial is very well set out and easy to follow.

Just one little issue for me. I’m in the UK and we don’t call our mothers Mom – It’s Mum for us.

Just being cheeky and wondering if you could adapt the file to use MUM instead of MOM!

Can you please check if the mother’s day card ‘mum’ svg file is ok? I keep trying to download and the computer can’t see the svg file in design space but when I download another of your svg files it is fine so it leads me to think maybe something has happened to the mum or mom files?

    thanks
    Cynthia

    1. Hi Cynthia,

Thanks for letting me know – there was a text layer that wasn’t properly converted. It should be working now! (Please redownload the file) 🙂

      Jen
