Spotify Glass Art Plaque on Cricut [Free SVG template]

Learn how to make this Spotify art plaque on glass or acrylic on your Cricut. An easy DIY project that is perfect for gifts!

So what is Spotify Glass Art and why are they so popular?

These Spotify Glass wall plaques were first spotted on Tik Tok. It turns out that Spotify has a cool feature that allows you to scan a Spotify code and it will play the song. This has spawned some great artwork using these codes. With this template, you can make these yourself at home as well on your Cricut.

I love how this artwork incorporates such a personal touch. It would be perfect as a gift. The one in this craft tutorial is a picture from my wedding as the album art and the song is our wedding song. But you can use any song you want. What song has significant importance to you?

HOW TO MAKE THE SPOTIFY GLASS ARTWORK ON YOUR CRICUT

If you’d rather watch a video on how to make it step by step, take a look at this video here (highly recommended!):

If you’d rather buy an already made Spotify Glass Decor Plaque, you can get them on Amazon or Etsy!

STEP 1: Download the template and get the Spotify Code

Grab your SVG file from the free resource library.

Unzip the file. If you do not have a program installed on your computer to unzip, I recommend 7-zip. (It’s free! Windows only)

For the Spotify song code, go to Spotify and search for the song you’d like to use. The song barcode will be scanned and the song will automatically play. You can pick any song or playlist from Spotify’s massive library.

Click on the three dots next to the song and select “Copy song link”.

Spotify Glass Art on Cricut. Get Spotify code by entering the URL.

Head over to Spotify Codes and enter the song url you just copied. On the pop-up box, leave all of the settings and make sure you select “SVG” as file type. Download the file.

STEP 2: Upload the Spotify Code into Cricut Design Space

Upload the template design in Cricut Design Space.

The designs are already sized for cutting so no sizing adjustments are needed.

We do however need to customize the text and images. The next few steps will show you how to do this.

Upload the image you’d like to use for the album art. I recommend adding a personal touch and using your own image.

Save the image as a print then cut.

Change the cut type on the green box to engrave. This will allow you to temporarily see a “guide” for how your image will look.

When you are comfortable with how your image looks for the album art, change the cut back to “cut”.

Spotify Glass Art on Cricut. Slice your image using the green layer as a guide.

Select both the green box layer and your image layer and click on “slice”. This will cut your image out.

Delete the green box layer and the image cut out layer. Now you have your album art!

Next we are going to add our Spotify song code.

Upload the song code you downloaded in Step 1.

Resize this file to the black box in the template.

Delete both layers that contain the black box once it is re-sized.

Next, let’s add our text for our song name and artist name.

The font we are using for this project is called “Made Tommy“. You can download the personal use version from dafont. If you are selling these, you will need a commercial license.

The song name is in Made Tommy (bold) and the artist’s name is in Made Tommy (regular). This font was one of the closest fonts I could find to the Spotify font. But feel free to use whatever other fonts you prefer.

The song name goes first (in the red box) and the artist’s name goes below it in the blue box. Delete the red and blue boxes once you are happy with how the text looks.

Cricut Design Space is a bit finicky with fonts. We will likely need to manually adjust the spacing between the words. You can do this by first ungrouping the layers.

To make the word spacing easier, group letters in a word. Manually move the words around to your desired liking.

Once you are satisfied with how everything looks, don’t forget to delete the red and blue boxes.

There is also a smaller blue box that you can put the song length in. I recommend deleting this layer as well as the 0:00 timer unless you are making a larger design. This was very difficult to weed.

Spotify Glass Art on Cricut. Attach all of the vinyl layers.

Finally, when everything looks good to your liking, we need to attach all layers (except for our album cover). Select ALL layers (except the album cover) and ATTACH.

Now we are ready to move to the next screen. Click “Make it”!

STEP 3: Cut it out on your Cricut

Cricut Design Space will sort the mats based on colour.

You should only have two mats. One for the print then cut and one for the vinyl cut.

Cut these out.

STEP 4: Weed your design

Now we need to weed our vinyl. (This basically means removing the parts we don’t want to use.)

I liked to start from the corner to get the bigger piece off and then use my weeding tools to get the smaller bits.

Once you are done weeding, transfer your vinyl to your transfer tape.

STEP 5: Assemble the Spotify Music Plaque

Spotify Glass Art on Cricut. Place everything on the glass.

Now that we have our template ready to go on our transfer tape, you can place it on the glass in the frame.

I am using 8″x 10″ floating frames from the dollar store. When you open this up, there should be two glass panels. One for the front and one for the back. The artwork will go on the back panel.

I put the glass panel on my cutting mat because it has a grid that I can use as a guide. I put it in the bottom corner and then placed my album cover first to see how I wanted to center it.

Then I shifted the glass panel so that the corners aligned with the corner of the album art.

Glue down the album art.

Remove the transfer tape.

Place your vinyl underneath the album art.

Remove the transfer tape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sell Spotify Glass Art Plaques?

A question I get a lot is if you can make Spotify Glass plaques and sell them. This is a slippery slope. Spotify is clear in its terms and conditions that you are not allowed to sell the codes. This means that generally Spotify Glass Plaques are not allowed to be created for commercial use.

“You are granted a non-exclusive licence to use and display Spotify Codes for the purpose of sharing a piece of content from the Spotify Service. You are not allowed to sell or offer Spotify Codes as such.”

Spotify Terms and Conditions 2020/03/31

There is also the issue of the music cover artwork on Spotify. These belong to the artists and labels and are protected under copyright laws.

What you CAN do is make Spotify glass plaques for personal use. This means you can make it for yourself and your family and friends. (Did I mention it’s the perfect gift?)

Another solution is to make a QR song frame instead. Using a QR song, you can link to virtually anything including Pandora, Youtube, Apple Music, Google Play Music, Amazon Music, or recorded voice clips.

How do I make a Spotify Glass Plaque without a Cricut?

If you don’t have a Cricut, don’t worry, you can still DIY the Spotify Glass Art Plaque.

You can use a condensed version of the steps included in this craft tutorial and still use the free Spotify SVG file available in my free resource library.

Here are the simple steps to make Spotify glass without a Cricut:

  1. Get the Spotify code to the song or playlist you’d like to use
  2. Print your picture out on your printer
  3. Glue the picture onto your glass or acrylic piece
  4. Inside the free Spotify SVG template is a png file. You can use that PNG file to either print on printer paper and paste that onto your glass or acrylic piece OR you can put it underneath your glass/acrylic piece and use a white marker (like a chalk marker) and trace over the top of the template on to your glass

How do I hang my Spotify Glass Art on the Wall?

The great thing about using floating frames is that it already comes with all of the hardware needed to hang your Spotify Glass Art on the wall. Just hang it up as you would a regular picture.

If you aren’t using a floating frame, you can put a sheet of acrylic on an acrylic stand.

You could also glue a piece of string on either side of your artwork (use strong glue like gorilla glue or E6000) and then hang it on the wall that way.

How does Spotify Glass Work? How do I scan the code?

Once you have a Spotify code, you can scan the code in your Spotify app to automatically play the song.

  1. Open up your Spotify App
  2. Click on “Search” in the bottom bar
  3. Click on the Search box where you would type in an Artist, Song or Podcast
  4. Click on the Camera icon available in the search bar
  5. Position your phone over the Spotify code and it will automatically start playing the song

Check out this quick Tik Tok video on how it’s made and how it works.

What is the size of the Spotify Image?

Depending on your frame size you will want to adjust it to fit accordingly. In the free Spotify SVG template from this tutorial, the final picture size is 4.5″ x 4.5″.

Where can I buy Spotify Glass Art?

You can purchase Spotify Glass Art on Amazon, Etsy or you can check your local Facebook marketplace

Thank you for all the messages that I’ve received from people that would like me to make and sell you Spotify Glass Artwork. I like to help others make their own art and do not sell physical products.

  1. Is the wedding photo printed on photo paper?

    1. I printed it on regular printer paper but you can use photo paper, sticker paper, or printable vinyl. Whatever you have on hand!

    GREAT TUTORIAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Latina Piggee says:

Thank you so much very informative

  4. Hello! I am trying to use your Spotify template for my own project but when I go to open the file, it is only opening in a chrome HTML file! I am not sure if I am doing something wrong on my end or if my computer won’t process it correctly but I am wanting to use the wonderful template that you created. Can you help me figure it out? Thank you!

    1. Hi Bree!

Once you download the file, you will need to unzip the file (until you get a .svg). Then you can upload that (.svg) file into Cricut Design Space.

  5. Stephanie says:

Hi! I am not sure why, but when I download the template the play button & & line are not showing. Could you help me with this?

    Thanks. 🙂

    1. If you upload the file into Cricut Design Space, you will see all those pieces. They are white so it’s likely when you open it in a different program you are seeing white on white (which is why it looks like it’s missing).

  6. Well this was so flipping amazing!!! I now have this year’s Christmas gift for my friends all figured out! The video was amazing and will make it so easy. I’ve already DL the codes for the songs I want to use. My only question, just got clarification, you placed the other glass on top of the one with the code and picture, right? Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

    1. Yep! The picture and vinyl are on the glass underneath and essentially wedged between the two pieces of glass. This also helps protect it from future peeling. 🙂

  7. When uploading the spotify code image there is an issue where the 3 lines in the spotify logo are not all transparent, one is transparent but the other two are still white, how can i fix this?

    1. Hi Carter, this should be solved when you remove the black background layer.

  8. Hello I’d like to know how to make this for 5×7 frame.thank you

    1. Hi Alicia,

You can use the same template, you would just need to shrink it down to size. I would recommend using a different font as well if you are making this on a smaller frame as Made Tommy is a pretty thin font so it will be difficult to weed.

  9. Love this project. I can not figure out how to get my own photo in design space!!!! Any tips or tricks to help? How did you design yours? I tried using inkscape but I am not very good at using that program yet and so It would not upload in to design space. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Hi Autumn, check the file ending for the picture and make sure it’s one that is compatible with Cricut Design Space. Files with .JPG would work well. I played around with my image in Photoshop beforehand to add a border and some text on the image but you could do that in Design Space as well. Regardless, you should be able to upload the base image into Design Space – just make sure it’s a compatible file.

Thank you so much for the tutorial and svg file! I can’t wait to give this project as a gift. Look forward to many more posts!

  11. I see you said you got the floating frame from the Dollar store. Do you happen to have a link? I have searched on Dollar Tree, but I don’t see any floating frames! 🙂

    1. I live in Canada and we aren’t able to buy things from Dollar Tree online. We can only find things in store. Sorry!

  12. Thank you for providing a written tutorial! Super easy to follow along on an IPad too! Just wondering how you cut out your picture. I am new to cricut and can’t quite figure out how you print it but cut it with the cricut. Thank you again!

    1. Hi Caitlin,

You can turn the picture layer to a “print then cut” layer by flattening the layers. Cricut will do the rest for you in terms of how to print then cut when you go to “make it”.

      Hope this helps!

  13. Hi, for some reason I don’t have the engrave option. Idk what I did wrong.

    1. Hello! If you are using the Explore Air 2, you can use the “draw” function instead. It will do the same.

  14. Hi there, I was just wondering how I should glue the picture down? Is there a good glue that will dry clear so you can’t see it from the back?

    Thanks for this tutorial!

    1. Hi Monica,

I just used a regular glue stick. It dries pretty clear on the back but it’s being hung on the wall so I don’t notice it.

  15. Hello,

I use Sillouette. Where can I find the silouette format?

    1. In the library where you download the file, there is a file format for “DXF”. Click on that link to grab the file.

  16. Thank you!! I just bought a Cricut and this was my first time using it. Literally opened the box and did this tutorial! My 12 year old daughter wanted one of these with a One Direction song for a friend’s birthday gift and it came out perfect! Your instructions were so easy to follow for someone who has never used Cricut before! Thank you!

  17. I would like to say you by far are the best at your video for this, loved the simple step by step instructions you provide very easy to understand and follow. I certainly will be following you for more
I also learned so much more watching your video… some great tips

  18. Alex Tahsin says:

so can you sell them or not? you say you cant but then say that you can buy them on etsy? whats the difference????

    1. Hi Alex,

Spotify’s copyright is clear that you can’t sell anything with their code on it. Any sellers on Etsy are technically breaking this copyright law. Spotify may issue lawsuits/cease and desists against these sellers. So you buy these at your own risk. There are other sellers that will use a QR code and a personalized image (which is not against Spotify’s TOS). I’m just listing all of the options available but you should be careful and contact a lawyer if you plan on opening up a small business to sell these. Hope this helps!

  19. I haven’t made this yet but followed your tutorial and saved my design on design space. Your tutorial was a dream to follow, thank you 🙂
